Last.fm: Free music streams turn into increased music sales

Last.fm announced today that for at least one of its affiliates, CD and digital music sales increased by 119 percent after its free, ad-supported music streaming service launched a couple of months ago. If the trend sticks, we may see more full-track previews coming our way from other services.

As mentioned before, since getting an IPod for christmas I am a huge fan of podcasts. I find it's like listening to the radio but you decide what they talk about. Currently, my favourite feeds are Chaos Radio Express (in German) and the In Our Time BBC programme. Recently, I was listening to an episode about Newton's Principia that discussed the scientific trends of the time when Newton published his seminal book. The chief inspector of prisons has claimed that overcrowded jails are making Scotland a more dangerous place and warned that an additional 26 new prisons would need to be built each year to keep up with current trends.

According to all five scientific agencies in the U.S. and Great Britain that track and publish global surface temperatures, NASA and NOAA among them, since 1998 there has been no statistically significant increase in the surface temperature.The same data show that in the seven years since 2001, the surface temperature has been trending downward
